Oval Pet Centre – Environmental & Sustainability Policy 2025

Introduction

Oval Pet Centre comprises of two sites, all accredited under the RCVS PSS small animal practice scheme. Our teams are dedicated to providing outstanding client care and striving for clinical excellence. Guided by our core values—kindness, compassion, professionalism, and honesty—we place animal welfare at the heart of everything we do.

We are committed to carrying out our work sustainably. We recognise our responsibility to consider the wider impact of our operations on public health and the environment. While we acknowledge that our activities have an environmental footprint, we are dedicated to reducing this impact wherever possible.

Key Environmental Aspects

We have identified the main areas where our operations contribute to our environmental and carbon footprint:

  • Use of anaesthetic gases
  • Waste generation
  • Consumption of electricity, gas, water, and other fuels
  • Transport emissions
  • Medicine usage and disposal
  • Procured goods and services with associated environmental impacts

Our Commitment

Oval Pet Centre is committed to reducing its environmental impact through a programme of continual improvement. We are striving to achieve IVC Evidensia Positive Pawprint Partner status.
 

Objectives and Goals

  1. Regulatory Compliance – Ensure full compliance with all applicable environmental regulations.
  2. Resource Efficiency – Monitor and reduce usage of electricity, gas, water, and fuels.
  3. Anaesthetic Gas Management – Record and reduce anaesthetic gas use.
  4. Waste Reduction – Improve recycling and reduce waste generation.
  5. Packaging & Single-Use – Minimise packaging and single-use items.
  6. Sustainable Procurement – Implement and follow a sustainable procurement policy.
  7. Sustainable Transport – Support and promote low-emission and active travel options.
  8. Chemical Impact – In the future reduce use of ecotoxic chemicals
  9. Medicines Management – Use and dispose of medicines responsibly, with particular focus on antibiotics and antiparasitics.
  10. Preventative Care – Promote preventative medicine to improve animal health and reduce resource use.
  11. Staff & Client Engagement – Keep staff and clients informed and engaged through practice meetings and website where we can

Implementation and Responsibility

We are committed to continually improving our Environmental Management System (EMS)   

This includes:

- Monitoring legislative changes and updating our practices accordingly.
- Providing training to staff to raise awareness of environmental matters.
- Communicating this policy to employees, clients, and interested parties.
